Hundreds of students and their parents came to the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds this morning to get ready for a new school year. Combined Community Services held their annual “Tools for School” event, where students came out to receive free school supplies, breakfast and a free haircut. John Parker, Director of Emergency Assistance, wants to make sure the kids are ready for their first day.
Outside of supplies for the students, there were services and tables that offered information for parents regarding different community resources such as medication, dental assistance, insurance, eye testing and crisis assistance.
Parker says the event is successful because of three things, volunteers, community involvement, and donations.
The organization says they typically start getting things together a few months prior to the event, but they would be willing to take donations for next year’s event at any time.
