Governor Mike Pence has accepted a donation of 65 tons of turkey, chicken, duck and eggs from the Indiana State Poultry Association for the state's food pantries.
The governor's office says poultry producers will be delivering products to their local food pantries throughout the state over the next several weeks.
The (Munster) Times reports an October study by Feeding Indiana's Hungry estimated 1.1 million Indiana residents regularly turn to food pantries and meal service programs to feed themselves and their families.
The donations are being made in part by Berne Hi-Way Hatchery, Creighton Brothers, Culver Duck, Farbest Foods, Hy-Line North America, Maple Leaf Farms, Midwest Poultry Services, Miller Poultry, Perdue Farms, Rose Acre Farms, Tyson Foods, and Wabash Valley Produce.
