While city and school officials in Goshen are considering a pedestrian tunnel under Plymouth Avenue near Goshen Middle School, the state has agreed to place flashing beacons near the crosswalk in the meantime. School leader say they’ve heard of several close calls and had already been having internal discussions about the crossing. Though the different groups agreed that a pedestrian tunnel under Plymouth Avenue would be the safest and best long-term solution for the safety hazard of the crossing, funding would probably not be available for a while. In the meantime, INDOT will install flashing beacons east and west of the crosswalk to warn motorists of the crossing and advise them of the 25 mph school zone during arrival and dismissal.
