Three Elkhart men who are part of the so-called Elkhart Four will receive new sentences next month after the Indiana Supreme Court threw out their felony murder convictions and instead ordered that they be charged with burglary.
Levi Sparks, Blake Layman and Anthony Sharp are scheduled to be sentenced at a hearing set for 8:30 a.m. Jan. 7, according to our news partners The Elkhart Truth.
The three were convicted of felony murder in 2013. When they appealed, the Indiana Supreme Court took the case and deemed their charges to be inappropriate. The state’s high court rejected the state’s request for a rehearing.
A fourth man involved in the burglary that led to the conviction, Jose Quiroz, was not affected by the court’s ruling because he pleaded guilty.
