A central Indiana city is working with Purdue University to open a center for advanced technology education and industrial testing. The Purdue Polytechnic Institute being planned in Anderson could have programs for 500 students and hundreds of entrepreneurs. Anderson Mayor Kevin Smith tells The Herald Bulletin the center's focus would be on encouraging an interest in manufacturing careers and providing the skills needed for such jobs. The institute would also help entrepreneurs produce and test prototypes and refine new designs. Smith traveled to Washington for an event Wednesday during which President Obama highlighted programs for high-tech innovation and manufacturing.
