An arsonist crept onto the property of an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer yesterday morning and set on fire the patrol car in his driveway. The incident happened on the Northside before 6:27 a.m., said Captain Rita Reith of the Indianapolis Fire Department. IFD crews arrived quickly and extinguished the blaze within five minutes, Reith said in a release, but photos showed damage to the patrol car to be extensive. The officer did not know the car was burning until firefighters knocked on his door. No one was injured in the incident. For security reasons, she said, authorities are not revealing the officer’s address.
