Emergency crews have been searching the St. Joseph River in downtown South Bend for a 25-year-old woman who was reportedly swept away. Boats were being used to search the river along a downtown park Tuesday morning. Indiana Conservation Officer Jonathon Boyd says crews were called to the site about 1:30 a.m. and that Yolanda Anderson of South Bend was considered missing. WNDU-TV and WSBT-TV report she was with a group of people at the park before she went into the river and began struggling in the current. Boyd says sonar was being used to search the river bottom.
