Police in Indianapolis say a gunman was badly wounded by an officer who saw him fire shots at a car with people inside. Lt. Christopher Bailey says the wounded man was taken to a hospital in critical condition after the shooting about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in a neighborhood on the city's near-north side. He says no one else was hurt. Bailey says SWAT team officers were conducting surveillance in an unmarked car because of several instances of gunfire in the neighborhood in recent days. He says two officers saw a man talking with people inside a car when he started firing shots. Bailey says one of the officers shot the man after turned toward them with a gun in his hand.
