It was suppose to start on Monday, but the trial for the daycare provider accused in connection with the death of a New Paris toddler who was under her watch is on hold again. It was March of last year when Jackie Rolston was charged with battery resulting in death of a child. Rolston’s trial originally suppose to take place in early June, but it was moved to Monday. And now, it’s been postponed again.
A hearing is set for Thursday afternoon, at which a new trial date will be set. According to court documents, 19-month-old Kirk Coleman died from blunt force trauma in 2014 while under Rolston’s home daycare. Prosecutors say he died from injuries he received at the hands of Rolston. Rolston, who had a prior conviction of child neglect on her criminal record, told police that Kirk Coleman stopped breathing because he had choked. His death led to the campaign of Kirk’s Law, an Indiana registry of convicted child abusers.
