Police and animal shelter officials will remove more than 600 animals from a Muncie storefront. The Star Press reports that a building commissioner on Wednesday discovered a man at a strip mall with a collection of animals including an alligator, two hedgehogs and more than 500 mice. Police say the owner was living there and will likely face ordinance violations but not criminal charges. He isn't affiliated with a nearby pet store but police say he hoped to open a pet shop. The state Department of Natural Resources accompanied police to see if his four turtles are legal in Indiana. The animals also included snakes, hermit crabs, hamsters and a parrot. A veterinarian says some of the animals aren't in good health. Officials found about 80 dead mice.
