A 24-year-old man is in critical condition after he was pulled from the water at Dewey Lake just after 1:30 P.M. on Saturday. According to WNDU, Abdi Adan, from Wheaton, Illinois, was kayaking with his brother and sister on Dewey Lake when he tried swimming a life jacket out to his sister and disappeared under the water. He was not wearing a life vest and neighbors say the man couldn't swim. At this time, bystanders called 911 and one nearby family came to help. He was found in about 15 feet of water and neighbors performed CPR until emergency crews arrived. Those emergency crews were able to get Adan's heartbeat back, before he was airlifted to a South Bend hospital. Neighbors say Dewey Lake is extremely shallow near the shore but dramatically drops off 10 to 15 feet out.
