A well-known breast cancer charity that has served the northern third of Indiana has announced it is closing. South Bend-based Susan G. Komen Northern Indiana board president Pam Jarrett blames a drop in donations. She says she believes the decline in support was mainly outside St. Joseph County, in areas where residents didn't believe the group was doing enough locally. The affiliate says it contributed more than 900-thousand dollars to local programs and more than 325-thousand dollars for research in eight years of operation in more than two dozen counties. The South Bend office's two employees were laid off last month. Jarrett says she and the board plant to close the office by the end of September.
