FORT WAYNE — The debate for Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction took place today at the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne campus.
Democratic state schools superintendent Glenda Ritz and Republican election challenger Jennifer McCormick both support expansion of state-funded optional preschool programs, however differ on how fast that should happen.
Ritz says the state can afford to provide pre-kindergarten to half of Indiana’s 4-year-olds by 2020.
McCormick favors a slower approach, citing concerns about cost and the availability of teachers and facilities.
