A Pierceton man has been arrested for dealing a substance he tried to pass off as methamphetamine.
Billy Jack Fairchild, 31, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail this morning, October 20, for dealing in a look-alike substance, a level 5 felony and dealing in a substance represented to be a controlled substance, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, on September 9, a Warsaw Police Department officer met with a confidential informant who advised he/she had arranged to purchase one and a half (1.5) grams of methamphetamine in exchange for $150 from Billy Fairchild.
The purchase was to occur near Kmart located in Warsaw.
The officer searched the informant and the informant’s vehicle for any drugs or contraband and located none. The informant was supplied with an audio recording device to monitor all conversation between the informant and Fairchild.
The informant phoned Fairchild on a recorded phone call to inquire about purchasing methamphetamine. In conversation, Fairchild agreed to meet the informant at Kmart and advised he had cut the meth himself and had been smoking it for the past two days.
Officers followed the informant to Kmart where he/she parked and Billy Fairchild was seen coming out of the woods to meet with the informant. Officers would hear the informant counting out the money and Fairchild talking about a security guy driving around the parking lot. Fairchild mentioned he did not want to go to jail. The informant then left the area.
Officers met with the informant who provided a clear plastic bag that contained a white, powdery substance. The informant advised Fairchild provided the meth in exchange for $150.
The substance was tested and came back negative for methamphetamine. Based on the officer’s past training experience, he has knowledge that the white powdery substance provided by Fairchild is packaged as meth and has the appearance of meth.
