At least eight Indiana hunters have fallen from elevated tree stands since the archery deer hunting season opened in October. State conservation officers say tree stand falls are the most-common hunting accident. One such accident happened Sunday when a man fell about 20 feet. Luckily, he was able to use a cellphone to call for help and was taken to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition. About 100 tree stand falls have been reported in the past five years. That's more than half of all hunting accidents in that time.
