One dead after pickup truck partially submerges in Elkhart River

One person is dead after a pickup truck became partially submerged in the Elkhart River south of Millersburg Monday morning.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department confirmed at least one fatality to ABC 57.

The truck went into the water in the area of C.R. 43 and C.R. 46 at about 10 a.m. Roads around the area were shut down while deputies and conservation officers with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources investigated.

Crews were reportedly having difficulty accessing the truck through the water before a rescue could be attempted. Few other details are available.
