Some hourly employees at Purdue University are upset, saying proposed changes that would consolidate the leave policy would eliminate the payout of unused vacation and sick days they historically banked for retirement. Purdue said it wants to form a new category called paid time off, rather than giving people separate vacation, personal and sick days. The plan would reduce the number of days off allotted annually for Purdue's 3,500 hourly employees to 25 days, as opposed to 31 days. Faculty members organized a meeting last week so hourly workers could tell administrators what they thought of the proposed policy. The committee that came up with the change says the will consider the employee feedback and fine tune the policy.
