Students from Edgewood Middle School are hard at work on their annual food drive.
Students, faculty and staff will be at at both Warsaw Owen’s locations from 4-7pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week, as well as 4-7pm Friday at the Owen’s on Center St and 10am-12pm on Saturday at the Owen’s on Market St.
The middle school volunteers will be greeting shoppers at the door and giving them a shopping list of items that are most in need. Students have been bringing food and monetary donations into school, as well.
The donations assist local families, Combined Community Services and Our Father’s House.
According to Edgewood Spanish teacher Zach Netzley, student volunteers are filling 18 spots at each store each night and putting in a total of 29 hours of time collecting donations.
Netzley said it is also a positive experience for the students to volunteer and gets them out of their comfort zone by approaching shopping for donations.
In past years, the Edgewood Middle School food drive normally feeds between 40 and 50 families 2 weeks worth food.
