KNOX – A wild scene in Knox ended with the suspect shot to death by the officers he allegedly was trying to run over.
It all went down at about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday in the 3100 block of South U.S. 35 in Knox, according to Indiana State Police.
Officers from the Knox Police Department and Starke County Sheriff’s Department went to a business to serve a felony warrant. After they arrived, a black pickup burst out of the closed garage door of the business and hit a marked Starke County Sheriff’s Department squad car.
At this point, the truck continued and the driver, 46-year-old William Newman of Plymouth, attempted to run over another officer as it attempted to flee the scene, according to Indiana State Police.
Officers opened fire on the vehicle, hitting Newman in the process. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
