The Silver Lake Town Council welcomed a room full of residents and accepted an additional appropriation at a public hearing followed by their monthly meeting Wednesday.
Clerk Treasurer Tonya Conley said the board received a grant to build a pavilion at the park. To be sure there is enough money budgeted, Conley said the board asked for an additional appropriation.
She described an appropriation as being similar to a savings account. The board approved using $7,500 from their general fund account and $7,500 from the economic fund. Conley said she doesn’t think the full $15,000 will be necessary.
“I’m just preparing for a disaster, just in case,” Conley said.
The board also accepted the trash bid from Stafford Solid Waste Inc. Their yearly charge totaled $44,541, broken down into $3,711.75 monthly. An offer from Waste Management was also under consideration, but the board decided to continue working with Stafford.
Another item the board discussed was paving Neher Road. It’s a private drive and it breaks up badly, they heard.
The board said they have no issue paving it if they own the property. Conley said there is money to do it this year. There will be a follow up with the status of this project and implementing a weight limit for the road at next month’s meeting.
Assistant Fire Chief John Conley said the Hog Roast is scheduled for May 23. He said there would be an auction and corn hole tournament with Disney Park hopper passes, Kings Island tickets and a Fender guitar from Sweetwater as prizes. All proceeds from the roast will go toward a new thermal imaging camera for the fire department.
John Conley also said the fire department wants to upgrade their radios to match the frequencies other agencies are using. There is a sale through the end of the month and it will cost around $6,000 for two new radios. This would use most of the fire department’s equipment budget for the year, but the board approved the request.
Conley said the equipment is not something that is going to be outdated in five years. He said he would discuss it again with the fire department before a final decision is made.
The next meeting for the town council is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 8 at the town hall.
