NIPSCO wants to remind customers and contractors to call 8-1-1; the free, national, call-before-you-dig number, two days before starting a project.
If you don’t, you could hit a gas, electric, communications, water, or sewer line and disrupt service or seriously injure yourself. Not calling could also result in fines up to $10,000.
You’ll also want to make sure any contractors you hire also call the 8-1-1 number and have all utility lines marked before the project begins.
