Two 17-year-old girls were killed as a result of a four-vehicle crash along US 30 in Kosciusko County Monday morning.
Emergency personnel had to close US 30 just east of Warsaw at about 9:35am after a crash that started when a car driven by 17-year-old Kirsten Kalene Ganshorn of Walkerton tried to pass a pickup. She clipped the truck, sending both vehicles into the median.
Ganshorn’s vehicle spun out-of-control and crossed the median backwards, slamming into a flatbed truck. Ganshorn was ejected from her car and onto the roadway, while the flatbed ended up going into the path of an SUV.
Ganshorn was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in her vehicle, 17-year-old Ashley Nicole Demont of Argos, was airlifted from the scene in critical condition. She later died of her injuries, according to the Kosciusko County Coroner.
The driver of the flatbed truck was airlifted from the scene in critical condition. The driver of the SUV was taken to a Warsaw hospital for minor bruising.
The crash is still under investigation.
