Sixteen people were hospitalized after a crash involving a passenger bus and two semis on the Indiana Toll Road.
The bus was travelling behind a semi as they approached a construction zone with a second semi following behind. Police say the driver was distracted and hit the bus because traffic slowed down.
Indiana State Police Trooper Ted Bohner tells WNDU the people on the bus were from Shanghai, China. They were heading to Chicago to catch a flight back home.
“It’s something we’re seeing time and time again with the construction everybody needs to be aware that traffic can be slowed or stopped,” Bohner said. “Once you’re going down from two lanes down to lane closure, kinda that bottle neck, that’s when traffic will start to back up.”
According to police, distracted driving is one of the main causes of accidents on the Toll Road.
