As you begin to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, don't forget to keep your pets safe and secure. Dogs and cats can easily become overwhelmed by the sudden crack of fireworks, causing panic and fear. Pets that have never attempted to run off before may bolt through a door or jump a fence. So leaders with Animal Care and Control say it's a good idea to keep them inside when fireworks are going off. Also secure your gates and doors. Pets should also not be taken to any parade or celebration where fireworks or sirens occur. The loud noises increase the chance of your pet fleeing and becoming lost.
