A jury duty phone scam is circulating through Allen County. Allen County residents have reported that they've been receiving phone calls indicating that a warrant has been issued for their arrest, for failure to appear for jury duty. The caller proceeds to say that the warrant can be recalled, if you pay a sum of money between $3,000 – $4,200. According to officials with the Allen Circuit Court, these calls are not legitimate. “These phone call solicitations are a scam and do not originate with the Allen Superior Court or the Allen Circuit Court. The Court does not issue warrants to potential jurors and never solicits money for failure to appear,” said Jerry Noble, Court Executive. “We are warning all Allen County residents not to respond to such calls.” In Indiana, if a person fails to appear for jury duty the Judge can send the Sheriff to get the individual to attend jury selection. A Judge can also hold an individual in contempt and require the resident to pay a fine for failure to appear. However, none of these actions take place over the phone.
