Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer opened six bids this morning for fire station No. 3, ranging in base bids from $2.3 to $2.6 million.
The winning bid will be announced at the Board of Works at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 15.
The future Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory station will be located on CR 200S at County Farm Road on the city’s south side.
The base bid from Robinson Construction is $2,606,522. There are nine alternatives to the bids, with Robinson’s price for alternate 2 (a third apparatus bay) adding $226,448; alternate 3 (providing standing seam roof system on base bid) adding $102,341; and alternate 4 (providing standing seam metal roof system on third apparatus bay) adding $194,939. The other alternates were deductions or additions of less than $100,000.
The base bid from Gibson-Lewis LLC is $2,927,000. Its alternate 2 price was an addition of $251,000. All other alternates were under $100,000.
Mosaic Building Solutions had a base bid of $2,295,000. Its alternate 2 would add $182,000, while alternate 4 would add $123,700.
Milestone Construction’s base bid is $2,594,000. Its alternate 2 would add $176,000 and its alternate 4 would add $174,000.
DJ Construction Co. Inc.’s base bid is $2,392,454. Its alternate 2 would add $135,555 and alternate 4 would add $244,826.
The last bid opened was from Hamilton Hunter Builders Inc., with a base bid of $2,469,300. Its alternate 2 would add $227,750, while alternate 4 would add $110,263.
Thallemer said, “The bids are in and the city engineer, consultant and committee will be looking at those bids and responsiveness, and we will be awarding the bid at the Board of Works meeting a week from today at 10:30.”
He said he was thankful the city received six bids on the project.
At that meeting, Thallemer said “Several factors have arisen that necessitate extending the bidding deadline for the fire station. Those involve the timeliness of subcontractors meeting new statutory requirements to be involved in the bidding; refining bids in the base of bid document addendums; a short turnaround during a very busy construction season.”
