A St. Joseph County man has been sentenced for setting fire to his former home. 63 year-old Douglas Wilcox was ordered to 10 years, 5 behind bars and 5 on probation, for the blaze, last year. Wilcox lost the home on Sandy Brook Drive to foreclosure and the new owners were set to move in when prosecutors say he set it ablaze. A Clay Township Fire Captain was injured while battling the fire, when he nearly fell through the main floor to the basement. Police were given a letter Wilcox wrote to his daughter that said his wife built that home and no one else was going to get it…and he hoped the new owner had insurance. During Monday's hearing, Wilcox apologized to the firefighter who was hurt. He was then put into handcuffs and led away to begin his sentence.
