The first phase of a plan to get Claypool Elementary students outdoors is nearing completion.
The woods north of the school building are now home to an outdoor classroom, which has seating and a whiteboard. The outdoor classroom is part of a three year project to make more trails and learning centers available to students and staff.
A press release from the school says they consulted with Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation to get the project going.
When asked why outdoor learning spaces were a priority, school officials pointed to research which shows school performance increases with outdoor learning opportunities.
