Husky Trail reopened on Wednesday evening after a seven-month project that began April 3rd.
The two-phase project was funded with Federal Highway funds through Indiana Department of Transportation to reconstruct the roadway. In addition to the improved driving surface, several other improvements were made, including new underground storm infrastructure, a new roundabout at Mariners drive for improved traffic flow, dedicated turn lanes at various intersections, sidewalks on both sides of the street, decorative lighting, and other general ADA and pedestrian safety improvements.
“We understand that this project caused many frustrations and inconveniences for residents, and we are most appreciative of their patience during construction. The most efficient way to complete the project was through the two phases of closures. As a result, we hope that residents find the new road easier and safer to navigate, both by vehicle and on foot,” shared Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer.
Residents are encouraged to use caution while navigating the new roadway, as everyone gets used to the changes. When driving through the roundabout, always slow down and yield before entering, and use your turn signal. Only stop at the roundabout to yield to vehicles in the roundabout or to yield to pedestrians at the roundabout crosswalks.
There will be a few finishing touches to be completed in the coming weeks. There may be minor, temporary disruptions in traffic while those items are completed. No additional closures are anticipated.
