It's more than two years in prison and a hefty 100-thousand dollars restitution bill for a South Bend resident who pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud the government in a tax refund scheme. Court documents show 37 year-old Africa Gunn participated with others, preparing and submitting tax return forms with false information or inflated W-2 forms to obtain false refunds. As a result of this scheme, Nearly 1200 tax returns were submitted from 2008 to 2010, requesting more than $3.5 million in refunds. Federal prosecutors say Gunn opened and controlled bank accounts that received the moneu and shared in the proceeds.
