Police responded to a hit-skip accident Monday after a semi struck another vehicle, forcing it over a guardrail and into a ditch. According to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Chad Hill, officers responded just after 10 a.m. Monday at the intersection of U.S. 30 and CR 450E. Hill said a vehicle driven by 64 year old Darrel Gene Huffman of Columbia City, was traveling westbound on U.S. 30 when it was struck from behind by a semi truck. The collision forced Huffman’s vehicle over a guardrail, and the vehicle then rolled down an embankment. The semi truck then left the scene of the accident. Huffman suffered a broken arm and was transported to Lutheran Hospital where he is scheduled for surgery to repair damage to his arm. Hill said police are still attempting to locate the semi truck but have no license plate or other information other than the truck had a red cab. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who may have information on the semi truck or its driver are asked to call the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department at 574-267-5667.
