The Indiana Department of Education recently awarded Warsaw Community Schools with an Indiana Title IV grant.
WCS was selected to receive the maximum grant amount of $100,000.
Special Projects Coordinator Krista Polston tells News Now Warsaw’s IN the Know what the funds will be used for.
“We’re really hoping it will move our STEM initiative forward, it will impact every building at WCS, and provide some opportunities for our lakes and stream curriculum,” she explains.
“We have a lot of building that are within walking distance to lakes and streams and wetlands areas, so we’ll be able to create some outdoor classroom space, as well as purchase some STEM resources as far as robotics, some Lego education, so we’ll really be able to move our buildings forward and continue this initiative at WCS.”
Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert says this is the first year for Title IV funds.
“They said ‘be creative with this, we’re looking for creative school corporations to fund’…STEM is our backbone here in Warsaw Community Schools and the entire Warsaw community. When we look at our industry that covers everything from agriculture to our biomedical to healthcare professions, so we see this as just a wonderful supplement in what we’re doing,” Hoffert tells IN the Know.
The funds are federal, but they are distributed by the state.
