The Silver Lake Town Council came one step closer to receiving a USDA Rural Development Police Car grant Wednesday evening at its monthly meeting. Silver Lake Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter said the grant would cover 55 percent of the total cost for a new vehicle. On Halloween, one of the town’s police vehicles was struck along the driver side. Hollopeter said they plan to have the Durango back in service soon, but he doesn’t plan to paint the stripes back on in hopes of receiving the grant. If the grant is not received, he said they would have the stripes painted back next year. Hollopeter said they are still in the application phase and will not know if they received the grant until the middle of December. If approved, they plan to purchase a Ford F-150.
