This week marks Winter Weather Preparedness Week… and INDOT says they are ready when it comes to plowing snow and spreading salt. INDOT has been hiring during the past few months and is still accepting seasonal and full-time plow driver applications. Last winter, INDOT deployed more than 435-thousand tons of granular salt and 5 million gallons of salt brine on Indiana’s interstates, U.S. highways and state roads. They say it comes at a cost…as ongoing demand has resulted in less competition among suppliers than in prior years and average salt price increases toping 50 percent. INDOT continues to receive deliveries of salt and already has more than 220,000 tons on hand statewide. That's most of what would be needed during a typical winter.
