An off-duty police officer died in a crash with a school bus in north central Indiana Monday. Investigators say 39-year old David Rigney, an officer with the North Manchester Police Department, was driving south on SR 15 in Wabash County when his personal vehicle hit a slick spot. The officer's Chevrolet Trailblazer fishtailed into the northbound lane of the highway, where it was struck by the oncoming school bus. The bus pushed the Trailblazer back into the southbound lane, where it was then struck by a Chevrolet Cobalt. Rigney was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two drivers involved were not injured. Thirty-nine children were on the school bus at the time of the crash. Police say some of them complained of pain, but none required transport to the hospital after being checked by paramedics at the scene. The crash remains under investigation. Rigney had served on the North Manchester force since August 2012.
