A 27-year-old Middlebury man is facing several charges after allegedly fleeing police and trying to avoid arrest by stabbing himself. The man was stopped on County Road 35 near County Road 8 by Middlebury police officers when they recognized him as someone who had prior suspensions. Shortly after being stopped, the man fled from the vehicle into a wooded area. The Elkhart Truth reports when officers attempted to apprehend him, the man stabbed himself in the leg with a pocket knife – twice. He was transported to the hospital for treatment before being jailed for resisting law enforcement and driving with a suspended license.
