Two Arrested in Elkhart After Armed Robbery, Police Chase

A 19-year-old Elkhart man and a juvenile were arrested early Tuesday morning, June 30, after police say they robbed a gas station on Bristol Street and then led police on a chase through Elkhart.

Jonathan Jackson and the juvenile male were arrested on preliminary charges of robbery while armed with a firearm, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department.

Snyder said two male suspects entered the Marathon gas station at 1850 E. Bristol St. at about 12:52 a.m. and displayed a handgun. They took cash and merchandise and then ran from the store.

While Elkhart Police Department officers were called to the gas station to investigate the armed robbery, a nearby Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department deputy was involved in a police chase with a vehicle occupied by two male suspects, Snyder said.

The suspect vehicle led police through town and eventually crashed near North Main and Emerald streets, Snyder said. The suspects got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene, but were soon found by police and arrested.

Cash and merchandise stolen from the gas station was found inside the vehicle involved in the police chase, Snyder said.

Jackson and the juvenile are being held without bond at Elkhart County Jail.
