A Mentone building has been deemed unsafe by the town Fire Chief. The brick building on the corner of S.R. 25 and Morgan St. currently has a large fence and cones around it to keep people away. Why you may ask? The upper half of the building is about to fall over. The winds that we received early Tuesday morning have caused the building to lean making the area extremely dangerous. Along with the structure issues, asbestos has been found in the brick structure and in the basement, which would cost the town $20,000 to fix. The decision? It must come down. The town of Mentone has been in contact with IDEM and if all paperwork is approved, the building is anticipated to be torn down on Saturday.
