1st Source Bank recently presented a $10,000 check to Grace College for ongoing support of a stock ticker and data display in the School of Business. The ticker and display, which are installed in the lower level of the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center (MOCC) where the Business School resides, allow business students to keep the pulse on financial markets and global business news in real time.
“1st Source continues to be a wonderful partner with Grace College,” said Dr. Bill Katip, president of Grace College & Seminary. “The ticker and display enhance our students’ understanding of the financial markets and business around the world while also attracting interest to the School of Business from visitors to the MOCC.”
The stock ticker displays the latest numbers from all major stock exchanges, while the data display shows Reuter’s news feed as well as School of Business news and events.
“The overarching theme is to keep us connected to what is happening in business all over the world,” said Dr. Jeff Fawcett, dean of the Grace College School of Business.
Drew Flamm, vice president of advancement at Grace, said the gift from 1st Source is consistent with their long-term investment in the school. “1st Source is a constant supporter of Grace, and the Business School especially,” he said. “They not only provide financial support, but also give of their time and talent. 1st Source executives serve on our Business Advisory Council, they guest lecture in business classes and employ Grace interns and graduates.”
One of those graduates is 1st Source Bank Warsaw City President Doug Baumgardner, who presented the check to Grace College. Baumgardner said, “The stock ticker and data display sponsorship is one way we can support the ongoing education of business students and provide a unique tool to enhance their learning. We know the School of Business at Grace is doing a terrific job educating and preparing students for the workforce, and we are glad to support their efforts.”
The Grace College School of Business enrollment has more than doubled in the last decade to 318 students – a full quarter of all traditional undergraduates. As the Business School continues to grow, so do the accolades and accomplishments of its students. Finance students recently launched a Student Managed Investment Fund, making the Grace College School of Business among the 10% of collegiate business programs in the country to have a student-managed fund. Grace graduates continually pass the CPA exam at rates significantly above the national average, and 96% of 2017 graduates had jobs within six months of graduation. This fall, the School of Business launched a new major in Digital Marketing. It, along with the start of Agribusiness in 2017, brings the total number of business school majors to 15.
“We can’t say thank you enough to community sponsors like 1st Source. Their investment in Grace College goes a long way to help our school and students succeed,” said Dr. Katip.
