A broken gas main sliced during construction work near Center Street and Maple Avenue in Warsaw caused a shutdown of traffic on several nearby streets east of the downtown for over three hours Tuesday.
It was repaired by 1:20 p.m.
The Times-Union reports workers and nearby residents could hear the leak from nearly a block away.
Nearby residents were evacuated and the city encouraged those affected to go to the Pete Thorn Center for shelter.
Currently, Center Street is reopened to Eastbound and Westbound traffic with a single lane restriction at Maple Avenue.
UPDATE, AS OF 1:20 P.M.:
The repair is complete and the gas leak on Center Street in Warsaw is now capped.
The evacuation order is now lifted and the area is safe.
Main and Market Streets are reopening.
Center Street will require continued repairs, but should reopen with lane restrictions.

A gas leak has been reported on Center Street in Warsaw.
Center, Main, and Market Streets are currently closed between Scott Street and Bronson Street. Please avoid the area. Officials want to reduce vehicle traffic that could cause an issue with the natural gas.
Residents in the immediate area are being evacuated. The Pete Thorn Center, 800 N. Park Avenue, is open to evacuees for shelter.
NIPSCO is on site assessing the situation.
