Closed door prevents spread of fire at Warsaw home

Studies show that closing doors can help save lives in the event of a fire, according to Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Public Information Officer Max Kinsey.

In a house fire at the 500 block of Oak Glen Drive, Warsaw, early Sunday morning, the residents had closed the door between their garage and residence and it kept the fire back.

Saturday’s fire started in the garage.

“We’re trying to get people to close doors when they go to bed,” Kinsey said.

The fire department was called to the scene at 4:09 a.m. Sunday and remained on scene for about three hours, with 11 firefighters on scene. Winona Lake and Plain Township fire departments were called to assist.

No injuries were reported, but damage was estimated at approximately $45,000 including the property and contents.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
