Two cases of Acute Flaccid Myelitis have been confirmed in Indiana, with 22 cases confirmed nationwide.
But how big of a concern is the polio-like disease to Hoosiers?
Parkview Health Physician Dr. Nick Seman tells News Now Warsaw’s IN the Know it’s not very common, with only about four-hundred cases confirmed in the past four years.
“It’s not something you’re going to see going around the community. It’s really only affecting 1 in 10-15 million people on a yearly basis, so it’s very rare,” he explains.
The CDC recommends getting immunizations for children and encouraging proper handwashing as a preventative measure.
