The Bourbon Town Council shared its disappointment in not receiving a Community Crossing Grant that they had hoped to obtain.
During its monthly meeting on Tuesday, it was noted that the town had paid the firm of JPR $20,000 to prepare and submit an application for the grant.
Kim Berger, clerk/treasurer, said she had been in contact with surrounding towns that did receive awards, as well as JPR. At this point, plans are to resubmit a request for the next round in January. Berger explained that JPR would help with that submission at no charge. Bourbon did receive an award last year that was earmarked, for the most part, for street and sidewalk repairs.
Steve Stacy, wastewater superintendent, said the town was the recipient of a $35,000 planning grant. The council members formally entered into a contract with Wessler Engineering to perform work in connection with the grant stipulations. The project manager with Wessler Engineering was present at the meeting to answer questions.
Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer shared some of the steps being taken in connection with the Steller Designation. Cities and towns within Marshall County have united their efforts in the hopes of being chosen as one of two submissions that will be awarded.
Overmyer said, “All towns came together over the summer to formulate this plan.”
Some 21 interested parties are expected to present a video of the local plan to the awarding committee on Thursday in Indianapolis. Among other ideas, Overmyer said they want to use a planning grant to bring more fiber optic into Marshall County.
Bourbon Council President Les McFarland said, “All of the towns have been working well together-coming up with ideas.”
