A Warsaw Police Officer is resigning from the force and retiring a K-9 officer before moving to Virginia for a new job.
Officer Trent Shively submitted his resignation stating that he will be taking up a new management job on the east coast. He requested that his K-9 partner, Mako, be allowed to retire so that his family can take him along. Mako is nine-years old and has been with the force for six years. Shively has been on the force for eight-and-a-half years.
Captain Joel Beam stated at Friday’s Board of Works meeting that it would be more cost efficient for the city to allow the retirement and train a new dog with a new officer.
The board unanimously approved the retirement of Mako.
