Warsaw Police Department assisted in a pursuit of a vehicle Saturday morning.
The pursuit was called in at 12:05 a.m. from Elkhart County and ended at 12:13 a.m. in Kosciusko County with Elkhart County officers following a stolen vehicle.
The pursuit came southbound into Kosciusko County on Ind. 15, said Det./Sgt. Brad Kellar, public information officer for the WPD. Warsaw officers assisted other agencies in the pursuit and WPD performed a “rolling roadblock in the area” of U.S. 30 and Ind. 15 (Detroit Street) to stop the fleeing vehicle, a gold 1999 Ford F150 with South Dakota license plates.
“Stop sticks were used successfully in the Leesburg area,” Kellar said.
“In the process of the rolling roadblock, two Warsaw police vehicles sustained damage. It did result in successfully stopping the suspect driver, operating his vehicle at extreme speeds and driving dangerously,” Kellar said. “Once the suspect was taken into custody, a firearm also was located inside the stolen vehicle. No one was injured.”
The suspect was taken into custody by Elkhart County authorities and charges in Kosciusko County are pending completion of the investigation. Kellar said he cannot confirm anything about the suspect at this time.
Milford Police Department, Indiana State Police and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the pursuit, Kellar said. He said he assumed Winona Lake Police Department also assisted and does not know who from Elkhart County was involved.
No one from Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department could be reached Sunday.
