Multiple police departments joined forces this weekend to take on alcohol-related crashes, deaths and injuries.
Kosciusko County DUI Taskforce hosted roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints during the month of August. The sobriety checkpoint was held overnight Friday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. throughout the county, and continued through the weekend.
Craig Allebach, DUI Taskforce coordinator, said, “As a result of the sobriety checkpoint that was conducted on Friday night in Leesburg, the officers counted 590 and checked 366 cars. There were four DUI arrests as a result of this checkpoint and one other arrest.”
At least 14 people were arrested this weekend for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. See Public Occurrence for the full list of arrests.
The taskforce is part of a year-long effort by Indiana agencies to make roads safer. They are committed to increase their presence and DUIāenforcement throughout Kosciusko County, according to the taskforce.
Agencies involved included KCSD and the Mentone, Milford, Pierceton, North Webster, Silver Lake, Syracuse, Warsaw and Winona Lake police departments.
