Unemployment in Indiana fell slightly over the past month, a good sign of returning and new jobs being made available to Hoosiers.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released the September figures on Tuesday, showing Indiana’s unemployment at 6.2 percent, down from 6.4 percent in August. Indiana has the third lowest unemployment in the Midwest, with Minnesota at number two with a 6 percent unemployment and Wisconsin at the top with an unemployment rate of 5.4 percent.
Private sector employment has decreased by 109,700 over the year and by 4,500 over the previous month. The monthly decrease is primarily due to losses in the Private Education and Health Services (-4,000) and the Construction (-1,300) sectors. Losses were offset by gains in the Professional and Business Services (2,000) and the Leisure and Hospitality (800) sectors.
More localized numbers are expected to be released on Wednesday.
