A big wave on Lake Michigan is being blamed for the death of a Nappanee man over the weekend. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says 24-year old Earl Helmuth was with five friends taking pictures of the waves on a lighthouse pier around 6:30pm Saturday when a wave knocked all six of them into the water. The wave was estimated at 7 feet high. Three people were able to make it to shore on their own, while two others were rescued by the coast guard. Helmuth body was found Sunday morning. The Elkhart Truth reports that Helmuth was getting married next month, and his fiancée was among those who were rescued.
