Claypool Teen Arrested For Break-In

A Claypool teen was arrested Saturday after breaking into his former residence and stealing from the apartment.
Steven M. Craft, 19, of 9611 S. CR 100E, Claypool, faces charges of burglary and theft.
On Oct. 10, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officer Christopher Francis spoke with the owner of the apartment Craft previously lived in. The owner told police that he had seen Craft drive away from the building at a high speed when he returned.
According to the probable cause affidavit provided by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, the owner advised that he changed all the locks in the building and that Craft had moved out on Oct. 1. Craft’s roommate still lived in the apartment.
Francis spoke with the roommate who advised that she was missing kitchen items and jewelry. She also said that Craft had been texting her that he was going to commit suicide.
When officers contacted Craft, he allegedly confirmed that he moved out of the apartment and was not supposed to be at the property. He allegedly admitted that he entered the building through an unlocked door, took a key from the owner’s possession and went into the apartment. Francis observed the stolen items in Craft’s vehicle. The ring was then returned.
Craft was booked into Kosciusko County Jail on a $10,250 bond.
