Nearly 700 new coronavirus cases have been identified in Kosciusko County since the start of December, but on a positive note, nearly 900 more people have recovered from the virus.
The newest update from the Kosciusko County Health Department released on Thursday shows 670 positive cases were reported since last Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases up to 5,692. Since the first of the month, seven additional deaths have also been reported, bringing the county death toll up to 54.
Currently, 1,651 cases are still active, which is down about 200 since December 1st, and 33 people remain hospitalized. 3,954 cases have recovered, 867 recoveries added in the last ten days.
As of Thursday, the seven-day average of daily cases was 80, while the 14-day average is at 72.
Indiana reports 96 more COVID-19 deaths, 6K more cases

State health officials say another 96 Indiana residents have died from COVID-19, pushing the state’s pandemic death toll past 6,600.
The Indiana State Department of Health said Thursday that the newly confirmed deaths, which occurred over several days, raised Indiana’s toll to 6,603, including both confirmed and presumed infections. The department’s daily statistics update also shows that 3,221 patients were hospitalized at Indiana’s hospitals with COVID-19 on Wednesday.
Hoosier hospitals will have to postpone elective surgeries starting next week to free up hospital capacity under an order Gov. Eric Holcomb issued Wednesday in light of Indiana’s recent steep increases in serious COVID-19 illnesses.
